There are around 7500 varieties of apples grown around the world and about 2500 varieties grown in the US. The apple is a distant relatives of the rose family.
Storage Tips
Whole apples can be kept at room temperature or in the refrigerator. After they are cut, they should be stored in the fridge. In order to keep the cut apples from turning brown, you can toss them in a little vinegar or lemon juice.
